ANC: HOLYOKE IS MOVING CLOSER TO HAVING MEDICAL AND RETAIL MARIJUANA BUSINESSES IN THE CITY. THE CITY COUNCIL ORDINANCE COMMITTEE HAS RECOMMENDED APPROVAL FOR THE “BOSTON BUD FACTORY’S” REQUEST FOR REGISTERED RETAIL AND MARIJUANA MANUFACTURING ESTABLISMENTS AT 73 SARGEANT STREET. COUNCILORS ESTABLISHED A SET OF CONDITIONS WHICH INCLUDE HIRING PREFERENCES BE GIVEN TO HOLYOKE RESIDENTS, …AND NO HOME DELIVERIES. THAT’S A STICKING POINT FOR “SOLURGE,” WHICH WANTS TO ESTABLISH A COMBINATION MEDICAL/RETAIL DISPENSARY AT 650 BEAULIEU STREET. AND THEY’RE ASKING FOR A “SPECIAL USE” PERMIT THAT ALLOWS FOR DELIVERY OF MEDICAL MARIJUANA. DAVID COTLER: “IF WE’RE GONNA PUT PEOPLE IN A VEHICLE THAT GOES OUT TO DELIVER, THAT’S TWO, IF NOT FOUR TO FIVE ADDITIONAL EMPLOYEES THAT WE’D HAVE THE CAPABILITY OF HIRING HERE IN THE CITY OF HOLYOKE.” ANCHOR: CITY COUNCILOR DAVID BARTLEY TOLD 22NEWS THAT ANY MARIJUANA BUSINESS WILL BE RESTRICTED TO LOCATIONS IN HOLYOKE WARDS ONE AND TWO; SOUTH HOLYOKE AND THE FLATS.
