welcome back to kids fun science my
name is Ken today’s experiment is the slinky drop as always adult supervision
is required what you need is a slinky alright welcome to kids fun science
today’s experiment is with a slinky I haven’t had one of these for over 40
years but I’m not going to play with it the way I did 40 years ago I’m going to
experiment on dropping it and see how it reacts so when I hold it to the top and
as I go of it what’s going to happen this prediction so you got to make a
prediction it’s going to fall at the same time or it’s going to come up to
the middle we’ll see what happens oh that was pretty quick react we’re
gonna slow motion that’s pretty amazing look at here dropping all the way from
the top to the bottom why is this you can see with the slow motion at the
bottom end states completely still after I let go to the top and it waited until
the whole slinky came down before it started to the fall you can see with the
slow motions at the bottom end state completely still after I let go of the
top and it wait until the whole slinky came down until it started to fall you
can see here in the freeze-frame the bottom has not moved at all for being
Preston and not what I expected the bottom end has gravity pulling down on
it and attention pulling up on it so equal and opposite forces then the top
of the slinky reaches to the bottom and there’s no more tension pull in ain’t
gravity picked over and the bottom starts to fall little reverse video here
bringing it back up the crazy part is the bottom doesn’t even know the top has
been let go until it reaches the bottom so we knew what happened with the slinky
went in just by itself so we put a little weight on there I got a tennis
ball and we’re going to see if the tennis ball pulls it down a little
quicker or what the what’s going to happen there we go and you can see the
top is fall on the bottom stage of sync even though there’s extra weight with
the tennis ball that’s crazy so it doesn’t matter about the weight or the
tension pulling back up it will not fall until the top since the bottom I hope
